2025 FIFA Club World Cup Final: Cole Palmer Leads Chelsea to Win 3-0 Against PSG

2 months ago 24

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chelsea clinched the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup title after defeating Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the final at the MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, in the early hours of Monday, July 14, 2025 (local time). The title-decider ended with a 3-0 win for The Blues.

Cole Palmer played a crucial role in Chelsea's victory over the newly crowned UEFA Champions League winners from France. The 23-year-old English midfielder scored two goals and provided an assist for Joao Pedro's goal in the first half. Palmer was named the Best Player of the final match.

The 3-0 lead in the first half was successfully maintained by Enzo Maresca's men. Despite continued pressure from PSG, Chelsea's defense remained solid and eventually secured the win in the final to claim the FIFA Club World Cup title.

This marks Chelsea's second title under the management of Enzo Maresca. Previously, The Blues won the UEFA Conference League at the end of May, defeating Real Betis 4-1 in the final.

Meanwhile, for PSG, the defeat in the final dashed their hopes of securing a fifth title this season, having previously won the Ligue 1, Trophee des Champions, Coupe de France, and the UEFA Champions League.

Match Highlights

- First Half

Palmer opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, after a fine save from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez thwarted Desire Doue's shot on target from a pass by Ousmane Dembele.

Palmer, who received a pass from Malo Gusto on the right wing, took a left-footed shot from the center of the penalty area. The ball, aimed at the left corner of the goal, eluded Gianluigi Donnarumma's efforts to parry it away.

Chelsea doubled their lead shortly after a cooling break. Palmer made Donnarumma pick the ball from the back of the net again in the 30th minute. The English midfielder finished a pass from Levi Colwill in a quick counter-attack, slotting the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Unable to score a response, the team led by Luis Enrique conceded again. Joao Pedro, a new addition to The Blues, scored the third goal in the 43rd minute. Palmer provided the through pass, and Pedro struck with his right foot from the center of the penalty area into the top right corner of the goal. This goal put Enzo Maresca's side 3-0 ahead.

Before the half-time break, Sanchez made another crucial save. He managed to tip the ball over the bar from Joao Neves' header, originating from Achraf Hakimi's cross into the left corner of the goal.

Throughout their journey to the FIFA Club World Cup final, PSG conceded only once in the group stages. This is the most goals they have conceded in the tournament.

- Second Half

PSG continued to dominate possession in the second half and kept pressing into Chelsea's defensive area. In the 52nd minute, Khvicha Kvaratskelia took a shot from inside the penalty area after receiving a pass from Vitinha. However, Sanchez managed to parry the ball aimed at the center of the goal.

Four minutes later, Sanchez denied Ousmane Dembele's efforts. The former Barcelona player's right-footed shot was successfully diverted into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Next, in the 59th minute, Vitinha's right-footed shot from outside the penalty area, directed towards the bottom left corner of the goal, was also thwarted by the Chelsea goalkeeper.

Enzo Fernandez was substituted in the 61st minute after showing signs of discomfort during the match. He was replaced by Andrey Santos. Five minutes later, Joao Pedro was replaced by Liam Delap, who was previously absent due to suspension.

Delap's arrival increased Chelsea's attacking intensity. Just a minute after coming on, he immediately threatened Donnarumma's goal. His right-footed shot from outside the penalty area hit the target towards the right corner but could be saved by the PSG goalkeeper.

In the 80th minute, Delap almost scored. He once again took a right-footed shot, directing the ball towards the center of the goal, but it was still denied by Donnarumma.

Two minutes later, it was Sanchez's turn to make a save. He deflected Bradley Barcola's shot from the left side of the penalty area into the top left corner of his goal.

PSG had to play with ten men in the final five minutes of normal time. Joao Neves was shown a red card for grabbing Marc Cucurella's hair. Referee Alireza Faghani from Iran initially issued a yellow card but changed his decision after a VAR review on the sideline.

No response goals were scored by PSG in the remaining time of the match. The 3-0 scoreline in favor of Chelsea concluded the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final.
