TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 110 Palestinian citizens died in an Israeli military attack in Gaza on Saturday, July 12, 2025. According to an Al Jazeera report, 34 of them were killed while queuing for food aid at a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) facility in southern Rafah, which was supported by the United States.
Testimonies at GHF Location
Victims and eyewitnesses stated that Israeli forces directly fired at the crowd in the al-Shakoush area, right in front of one of the GHF distribution points. The UN and human rights groups condemned the GHF location as a 'human slaughterhouse' and 'death traps'.
Samir Shaat, a survivor of the attack, recounted that victims were "pools of blood" at the place where they expected to receive aid. "The bag meant to be filled with food turned into shrouds. I swear to God it is nothing but a death trap," he said at the Nasser Hospital, Khan Younis.
"They opened gunfire on people in a completely frenzied manner. As I carried my friend over my shoulder, I walked among martyrs," he continued.
Mohammad Barbakh, another Palestinian survivor, stated that the victims were shot by Israeli snipers. "They deceive us, letting us come to receive aid. They let us carry the bags, then started shooting at us as if we were ducks being hunted," he said.
The attack took place as ceasefire talks in Qatar hit a deadlock and international condemnation of Israel's plan to forcibly relocate the entire population of Gaza continued to rise.
Multiple Attacks in Several Areas
In addition to the incident in Rafah, Israeli forces also launched airstrikes in several other areas. In Gaza City, 14 people died, including four civilians in their homes on Jaffa Street, Tuffah. Ten others were injured. In Jabalia, northern Gaza, two residential buildings were bombed, killing 15 people. An attack in the Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City, killed seven people, according to medical sources.
As reported by Anadolu, Israel also pounded the northeast Beit Hanoon area by dropping nearly 50 bombs on Saturday. The Israeli military stated that they had attacked Gaza 250 times in the last 48 hours. At the same time, they still restricted the entry of food and humanitarian aid, despite various human rights groups warning of the risk of famine.
Children Threatened by Malnutrition
The Government Media Office in Gaza revealed on Saturday that 67 children had died due to malnutrition. A total of 650,000 children under five are now at high risk of acute malnutrition in the coming weeks.
"Over the past three days, we have recorded dozens of deaths due to shortages of food and essential medical supplies, in an extremely cruel humanitarian situation," read the official statement.
Doctors in Gaza also noted that more than 800 people had died and 5,000 others were injured around the GHF distribution point since the organization began operations at the end of May. "The vast majority were shot in the head and legs," said Khalil al-Degran, spokesperson for Al-Aqsa Hospital.
