TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto returned home after attending the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit at the International Congress Centre, Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on Monday, October 13, 2025. The meeting resulted in the signing of a peace document in Gaza.
As observed by Tempo, Prabowo touched down at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base on Tuesday afternoon, on a Garuda Indonesia-1 aircraft. State Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya exited the plane first. Subsequently, Prabowo, donning a cream-colored safari suit and a black peci hat, descended from the aircraft onto the blue carpet.
The former defense minister was welcomed by the State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Angga Raka Prabowo, Minister of Research and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Danantara CEO Rosan P Roeslani, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir.
When approached by the media, Prabowo said he and several other heads of state witnessed the signing of a ceasefire deal that cements peace in Gaza. According to Prabowo, the deal requires a great deal of effort.
"We pray that this will be successful. But I think this is a good start, that's the essence of it," said Prabowo.
Prabowo said that the Indonesian government is present to support peace in Gaza. The ceasefire in place is followed by the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the release of hostages, and the search for bodies that have not yet been found.
He claimed that the Indonesian government is always invited to support a major process. Prabowo also reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to support the independence of Palestine.
"My determination, for decades, I have been defending Palestine, since I was young, we have continuously supported the independence of Palestine, the Palestinian people," he said.
Last Monday, Prabowo, along with other heads of state, witnessed the signing of the ceasefire deal. The document was signed by U.S. President Donald Trump, Egypt President El-Sisi, President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Prabowo's presence at the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Conference reaffirms Indonesia's strong commitment to creating peace among conflicts and advocating for humanity at a global level. Before the heads of state departed for Egypt, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that Indonesia received an invitation to the Gaza peace conference on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
"The invitation requests President Prabowo's attendance because it is part of the ongoing negotiations, which, God willing, will hopefully bring peace to Palestine, especially in Gaza," said Prasetyo after a meeting at Prabowo's residence on Jalan Kertanegara IV, South Jakarta, on October 12, 2025.
Prasetyo said that President Prabowo had urged all parties to maintain good relations, and for that reason, he decided to accept the invitation.
