TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has ordered his staff to investigate the acid attack on human rights activist Andrie Yunus. The instruction was conveyed directly to Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
"I have received direct orders from Bapak President to conduct a thorough investigation in a professional and transparent manner," said Sigit in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday, March 15, 2026, as reported by Antara.
The police, according to Sigit, will employ a scientific, evidence-based investigation approach to handle the case. The police are currently collecting information about the incident, said Sigit.
Furthermore, the Indonesian police are planning to establish a complaint center for direct public reports about information regarding Andrie Yunus' attack. Sigit guarantees protection for those assisting the investigation process.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka expressed concern over the attack on Andrie Yunus, a member of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), according to VP Special Staff Tina Talisa.
"Violent actions like this cannot be justified in a nation that upholds the law, humanity, and democratic values," said Tina in a written statement on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
The state, she said, ensures handling the case in a just and earnest manner, as mandated by President Prabowo.
Andrie Yunus was previously attacked with acid while on Salemba I-Talang Street in Central Jakarta late Thursday, March 12, 2026. Andrie was sprayed with a harmful solution by two unknown individuals riding a motorcycle.
The perpetrators came from the opposite direction of Andrie. KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya said the attackers sprayed acid on the front of Andrie's body.
The corrosive chemical substance affected the right side of Andrie's body such as his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Some of the victim's clothing also melted due to the acid.
Based on medical records, Andrie suffered burns covering 24 percent of his body. Andrie Yunus also underwent eye surgery due to being splashed with the corrosive substance.
