TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bad Bunny's performance at the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show on Sunday, February 8, 2026, local time, captured attention. Nearly 135.4 million people watched his performance through television and streaming platforms. He showcased Puerto Rican culture and Latin vibes, sparking curiosity about his hometown.
Born in Bayamon on March 10, 1994, Bad Bunny was born with the name Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio. He spent his childhood and early years before fame in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Dubbed as the town of "Melao Melao," Vega Baja is located just under an hour from San Juan.
Known for its fertile plains, rich history, and beautiful beaches, the town is now more dynamic. With a growing tourism landscape, the reuse of old industrial spaces has become a center for visitors who want to enjoy educational tourism and the emerging music tourism scene.
According to Travel and Leisure Asia, Vega Baja has a hot and humid tropical marine climate. The peak season occurs between December and April, with drier weather and lower humidity. The rainy season peaks between August and October, while the off-season is from May to November. The hurricane season coincides with the broader Atlantic hurricane season, lasting from June 1 to November 30.
Destinations and Things to Do in Vega Baja
Museum Casa Alonso
The Museum Casa Alonso is located in an old house in the city center. Built in the neoclassical Creole style, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996, as reported by Discover Puerto Rico. It houses historical furniture and decorations, as well as exhibitions on popular Puerto Rican music, renowned Puerto Rican poet and patriot Don José Gualberto Padilla, and his daughter, Doña Trina Padilla de Sanz. The library, research, and study room of Pedro Albizu Campos contain a collection of historical documents and books.
Puerto Nuevo Beach
About 45 minutes west of San Juan on the northern coast of Puerto Rico lies Puerto Nuevo Beach. It is one of the most stunning urban beaches on the island, as mentioned by Travel and Leisure Asia. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for being among the cleanest and safest in the Caribbean. Its golden sand and dramatic limestone rock formations protect the shore from northern waves. The rock formations are a favorite spot for photographers to capture the vast Atlantic Ocean, although conditions can change rapidly. Facilities available include lifeguards, showers, picnic areas, kiosks, and paid parking.
Ceiba Pentandra Ecological Park
The Ceiba Pentandra Ecological Park is ideal for birdwatching, hiking, nature tours, or simply relaxing and contemplation. Its main attraction is the huge and majestic Ceiba tree, giving the park its namesake. There are walking trails throughout the park.
Parque Trece
The Recreational Area El Trece, often referred to as Parque Trece or "Park 13," has long been a communal gathering spot in Vega Baja. Situated in a lush environment, it has become a favorite spot for informal picnics, weekend reunions, and relaxed outdoor afternoons. Gazebos are scattered throughout the area (available by reservation), while open grassy lawns, a baseball field, a basketball court, and a playground add to the appeal for families. The park is adjacent to a shallow rocky river, with steps leading down to the water. Locals can enjoy the coolness there during the warmer months.
Book San Juan: Bad Bunny Origins & Cultural Food Tour
Vega Baja has launched a guided experience that explores Bad Bunny's early life through the city's culture, architecture, and landscape, but it only takes place from July to September 2025 (and may return).
In its place, there's the San Juan: Bad Bunny Origins & Cultural Food Tour. This eight-hour activity with a small group (maximum of 14 people) takes travelers from San Juan to Vega Baja. It includes tasting pan sobao for breakfast, street snacks, mofongo for lunch, and visits to reggaetón spots in Old San Juan along the way.
