2025 AFF U-23 Cup: Group Stage and Match Schedule

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The most prestigious football tournament in Southeast Asia, the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup, will kick off this evening, Tuesday, July 15, 2025. The first match will be between Malaysia and Vietnam at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta at 5:00 PM WIB (Indonesian Western Time). Following that, the Indonesian national team will host Brunei Darussalam at the same stadium at 8:00 PM WIB.

Indonesia as the Host

Indonesia has been officially selected as the host of the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup. The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has chosen SUGBK and the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi as the venues for the tournament, now officially named the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup.

SUGBK will host all matches in Group A, including the matches with the Indonesian U-23 national team. Meanwhile, the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium will host matches for Group B and Group C.

Group Allocation

Based on the draw results, the Indonesian U-23 national team is placed in Group A alongside Malaysia, the Philippines, and Brunei Darussalam. Group B consists of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, while Thailand, Myanmar, and Timor Leste occupy Group C.

Indonesia will start its campaign by facing Brunei Darussalam on Tuesday night, July 15, 2025. The next two matches will be against the Philippines on July 18 and Malaysia on July 21. All three games will be held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta.

Final Match Schedule

The top three teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. The best second-placed team will join these three teams. The semifinals will be held at SUGBK on July 25. The two winners of the semifinals will play in the final match at SUGBK on July 29, while the losing teams will compete for third place on July 28 at SUGBK.

Past 2025 AFF U-23 Cup Champions

In the previous four editions, Vietnam has been the most successful team in the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup, having won two titles in 2022 and 2023. In 2022, they defeated Thailand 1-0 in the final. Meanwhile, in the 2023 edition, they overcame Indonesia, coached by Shin Tae-yong, in a dramatic penalty shootout with a score of 6-5.

The Indonesian national team has clinched the tournament title once, specifically in the 2019 edition under the guidance of Indra Sjafri, when the tournament was held in Cambodia. At that time, Garuda Muda emerged as the champions after defeating Thailand 2-1. Thailand, on the other hand, won this tournament in its inaugural edition in 2005.
