3 months ago 145

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The making of the live-action film Lilo & Stitch in 2025 invites viewers to explore the beauty of O'ahu Island, Hawaii. Whether a fan of Lilo & Stitch or new to their world, this science fiction film will take viewers to Waikiki Beach, Haleiwa, and its surroundings. These beaches can also be visited in real life.

The plot is about a young girl named Lilo who accidentally adopts an alien, mistaking it for a dog. The alien, originally designed to be a destructive force, becomes close to Lilo and learns the concept of family and togetherness. Maia Kealoha plays Lilo, and Chris Sanders voices Stitch.

Lilo & Stitch Shooting Locations

The entire scenes of the film released on May 23, 2025, were recorded on O'ahu Island, Hawaii. To get to O'ahu, you can go through the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu, which is about 18 kilometers away. Once you're on Oahu, you can get around by renting a car or bike, taking public transportation like TheBus or the Waikiki Trolley, or ordering a taxi with Uber or Lyft.

After knowing how to get around while on O'ahu, let's explore the movie's shooting locations.

1. Diamond Head State Monument

With various scenes in the trailer, O'ahu has emerged as one of the main shooting locations for Lilo & Stitch. Both are seen driving along the famous Diamond Head State Monument on Kalanianaole Highway. This iconic volcanic crater is a must-visit if you're planning a trip to Hawaii.

The iconic volcanic crater boasts challenging hiking trails that offer surreal views of the beach from the peak, as reported by Travel and Leisure Asia. Some tourist spots near the area include Diamond Head Beach Park, Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Aquarium, and Kapiolani Regional Park.

2. Haleiwa

Another shooting location is the historic surfing town of Haleiwa, on the North Shore of O'ahu. In addition to its beautiful coastline, Haleiwa also has art galleries, buildings from the plantation era, beautiful cafes, and boutiques. Other nearby tourist spots include Laniakea Beach, Waimea Bay, and Shark's Cove.

3. Waikiki Beach

The world-renowned Waikiki Beach takes center stage in the trailer, just before the character Pleakly enters the frame. Located in the southeastern part of Honolulu, this beach offers soft white sand, blue-green water, and a view of Diamond Head. It is also mentioned as the birthplace of modern surfing.

In addition to Lilo & Stitch, Waikiki Beach has appeared in several Hollywood films, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 50 First Dates (2004), and Pearl Harbor. As quoted from Go Hawaii, this beach attracts more than four million visitors annually. Various activities can be enjoyed, such as sunbathing, bodyboarding, surfing, and outrigger canoeing.

4. Makaha Beach

Makaha Beach is mentioned for its strong waves, which can reach up to 25 feet during the winter, as well as for the Hawaii Kne'ki Heiau temple and local traditions. It also appears in Lilo & Stitch. Some tourist spots near this beach include Makaha Beach Park, Pka Bay Beach Park, Waianae Farmers Market, and Kaena Point Trail.
