TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-23 national team secured their second victory in the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup after defeating the Philippines 1-0 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, July 18, 2025. This result solidifies the Garuda Muda squad's standing at the top of Group A with six points.
The Indonesian U-23 team previously won big against Brunei Darussalam with 8-0, as Jens Raven scored six goals in the Tuesday match.
The Gerald Vanenburg-led team dominated from the beginning of the match, but struggled to score. The only goal occurred from an own goal by Filipino player Jaime Rosquillo in the 23rd minute. The goal resulted from an inbound throw-in by Robi Darwis. Rosquillo scored an own goal due to a miscalculation while anticipating the throw-in pass.
Jens Raven was substituted in at the start of the second half, replacing Hokky Caraka, but he failed to score. Nevertheless, Indonesia secured three points after maintaining their lead.
With this result, the Indonesian U-23 national team leads Group A with six points. The Philippines is in second place with three points, followed by Malaysia with the same points but a lower goal difference. At the bottom is Brunei Darussalam, which has suffered two defeats.
Malaysia, who suffered a 0-2 loss against the Philippines in the first match, rose with a 7-1 victory against Brunei Darussalam.

First Half
Coach Gerald Vanenburg made changes to the player lineup compared to the previous match, with three changes in the backline and one in the front line.
