TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections has identified 294 foreign nationals residing in Indonesia who are suspected of immigration violations. These individuals originate from various countries, including China, Nigeria, and Pakistan.
According to the Acting Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman, the individuals were caught during a nationwide foreigner monitoring operation called Wira Waspada, conducted between July 15 and 17, 2025.
“A total of 294 suspected violators are still undergoing further investigation,” Yuldi said in a statement on Saturday, July 19.
During the operation, immigration officers inspected 2,022 foreign nationals. The largest group came from the People’s Republic of China, totaling 1,143 individuals.
Other nationalities included 156 from South Korea, 81 from Japan, 74 from India, and 71 from Malaysia. Officers also checked 60 Filipinos, 46 Americans, 39 Thais, 29 Dutch nationals, and 28 Yemenis.
Yuldi explained that the purpose of the inspection was to verify the legal status of foreigners residing in the country. Most of those examined held Limited Stay Permits, with 1,581 individuals falling under this category.
Another 326 were using Visit Stay Permits, while 42 had Permanent Stay Permits. The remaining individuals included 43 UNHCR-registered asylum seekers, 12 undocumented migrants, and 16 who had no residence permits whatsoever.
“The most frequent violation was the misuse of stay permits, found in 148 cases,” Yuldi noted.
Other violations involved 34 individuals who failed to present valid travel or residence documents upon request. There were also 29 cases of overstay, 25 involving inaccurate or outdated residential addresses, and eight cases of foreigners using fake sponsors.
Yuldi emphasized that foreigners found to have committed immigration violations will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with immigration laws. If the investigation reveals criminal activity beyond immigration offenses, the cases will be referred to the relevant authorities.
He added that this type of operation will continue on a regular basis to prevent rule-breaking foreigners from residing in Indonesia.
“This reflects our commitment to upholding national sovereignty and ensuring that every foreigner complies with Indonesian law,” Yuldi said.
