TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Dieng Culture Festival (DCF) will take place on August 23-24, 2025, in Dieng Kulon Village, Central Java. The festival promises a captivating mix of traditional art performances, live music including the Dieng Symphony Orchestra, a lantern flight spectacle, and cultural rituals like the sacred dreadlock shaving ceremony.
If you are planning to attend, you can reach the festival grounds by car or motorcycle from several nearby cities. For those coming from farther away, you can fly, take a train, or ride a bus to one of these cities and then continue your journey by land.
Getting to Dieng
1. Wonosobo
Wonosobo is the closest major city and the primary gateway to Dieng, with a travel time of just 45-60 minutes. However, be prepared for heavy traffic, as this route often gets congested during the festival due to the large number of visitors.
By Bus: Direct buses from Jakarta to Wonosobo cost between Rp150,000 and Rp250,000, depending on the class and bus operator.
By Train and Bus: You can take a train to Kutoarjo or Purwokerto (fares start at Rp70,000) and then continue to Wonosobo by bus or shared travel (around Rp50,000 to Rp100,000).
From Wonosobo: From here, you can rent a car (Rp350,000-Rp500,000/day) or a motorcycle (Rp100,000-Rp150,000/day). Public minibuses are also available for about Rp20,000-Rp30,000 per person.
2. Purwokerto
This is the most convenient option for travelers arriving by train. You have two main choices to get to Dieng:
Direct Travel: Many local drivers offer travel services directly from Purwokerto Station to Dieng, especially in the days leading up to the DCF.
Bus Route: Take a bus from Purwokerto Terminal to Mendolo Wonosobo Terminal, then transfer to a local minibus to Dieng.
3. Banjarnegara
From the city famous for its traditional drink, there are two main land routes for private vehicles. Both routes offer stunning scenic views of hills and lush gardens.
Banjarnegara - Karangkobar - Batur - Dieng
Banjarnegara - Pagentan - Wanasaya - Dieng
4. Temanggung
This route is perfect for those who enjoy beautiful scenery: Temanggung - Parakan - Umbul Jumprit - Semati hill - Sikatok & Tambi tea plantation - Dieng. It is best to travel this route during the day, as thick fog can make driving difficult at night.
5. Pekalongan
From the city of batik, you can choose between a main route and an alternative. The main route is Pekalongan - Kajen - Kalibening - Batur - Dieng, while the alternative is Pekalongan - Petungkriyono - Batur - Dieng. The alternative route is narrower and more winding, making it a challenging but rewarding drive with spectacular scenery.
6. Batang
The journey from Batang to Dieng can be made via the route from PSDKU Undip Kabupaten Batang - Sibiting Tea Plantation - Batur - Dieng. This route is known for its steep inclines and sharp turns, so it is recommended to travel only during the day, preferably on a clear, sunny day.
By Air
For tourists using air travel, two airports are convenient for reaching Dieng.
Ahmad Yani Airport (SRG) in Semarang. From here, you can travel by land to Temanggung/Parakan and then on to Dieng.
Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo. Your journey from here can continue by land via Magelang - Temanggung - Parakan - Dieng, or through Borobudur - Wonosobo - Dieng.
