TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The initial report from India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) regarding the recent accident of Air India's Boeing 787 Dreamliner found no mechanical or maintenance issues with the aircraft or its engines.
As reported by Antara, the statement was made by Air India CEO Campbell Wilson in an email addressed to the company's employees on Monday, which was also circulated in Indian media.
"There was no issue with the quality of fuel and no abnormality with the take-off roll. Pilots passed mandatory pre-flight breath analyser, while no observations pertaining to their medical status was made in the report," Wilson wrote.
Wilson emphasized that the initial report did not indicate any mechanical or maintenance issues with the aircraft or its engines, and it was found that all mandatory maintenance tasks had been completed. He urged employees to avoid speculation about the issues.
The CEO also conveyed that after the accident, not a single second passed without the company thinking about the passengers, co-workers, friends, and the general public who lost their lives or were injured.
On June 12, an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner bound for London crashed a few minutes after takeoff from an airport in Ahmedabad, western India. Indian aviation authorities confirmed that there were 242 people on board, with only one survivor.
The aircraft crashed into a medical student dormitory, killing dozens of other people. According to the latest data, the total number of air crash victims whose remains were successfully evacuated by the rescue team reached 275.
The initial report from India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) revealed that the fuel control switch of Air India flight 171 shifted positions just a few seconds before the plane crashed on June 12.
As reported by Al Jazeera, this shift caused both engines to shut off within a second and resulted in the aircraft losing power.
