TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Officials from Arab and Islamic countries on Sunday night urged decisive action against Israel following an airstrike on Qatar that they have called "cowardly, treacherous, and criminal."

At a ministerial meeting in Doha, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, called the attack a combination of "owardice, treachery and foolishness," according to Anadolu.

He added that Israel's brazenness has been emboldened by "shameful international complacency and silence."

Aboul Gheit urged Arab and Islamic countries to unite to stop Israel's "criminal war machine" and put an end to the "disgraceful war."

The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, expressed "full solidarity" with Qatar over what he termed "Israel's criminal violation," emphasizing that the international community must take decisive action against Tel Aviv.

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, also condemned the attack as a form of "state terrorism" and an assault on "the very principles of mediation."

He called the strike a blatant violation of international law and diplomatic norms, and he affirmed that Doha would continue its mediation efforts with Egypt and the United States.

On Sunday, foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic nations began closed-door meetings in Doha to prepare for an emergency summit of heads of state on Monday, September 15, 2025. The meeting is also expected to address the long-standing proposal to form a joint Arab military force, an initiative first proposed by Egypt nearly a decade ago.

The meetings were prompted by an Israeli airstrike last Tuesday that hit a residential complex in Doha, killing five Hamas members. The attack occurred as they were discussing a U.S. proposal to end the war in Gaza, where nearly 65,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023.
