TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali Regional Police have named 14 suspects related to riots in front of the Bali police headquarters and the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) on August 30, 2025.

The Bali Regional Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya said the suspects were identified from the CCTV footage around the crime scene and by probing 24 witnesses. "The fourteen suspects were proven to have been involved in the vandalism at the Bali Regional Police office," Daniel said during a press conference on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, quoted from his written statement.

Aside from doing some damage to the police station, the suspects also vandalized police vehicles and looted some equipment. Daniel also claimed that some suspects took tear gas from the police.

The police also seized evidence in the form of Molotov cocktail materials from the suspects. "They have also been proven to have attacked the police personnel who were securing the demonstration at that time," said Daniel.

Police offices in several regions became targets of vandalism following the riots that occurred in Jakarta on August 28. The student protests initially centered in Jakarta to protest lawmakers' luxurious facilities.

However, the death of an online motorcycle taxi driver, Affan Kurniawan, after being run over by a Mobile Brigade (Brimob) vehicle at Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta, sparked anger among people that quickly spread to other regions. Waves of protests occurred everywhere on August 29-30.

The police are charging the suspects with Article 170 of the Criminal Code regarding Joint Destruction of People and Property, Article 363 of the Criminal Code regarding Aggravated Theft, as well as Article 1 Paragraph 1 of Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 and Article 187 juncto Article 55 of the Criminal Code.

Adult suspects are being held in the Bali Regional Police detention center, while the four juvenile suspects were returned to their parents to undergo diversion under the supervision of correctional institutions.
