TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - BEM Coordinator for Greater Jakarta and Banten (BSJB), Andhika Natawijaya, announced that another protest will take place this afternoon at the House of Representatives building in collaboration with the civil coalition.
The protest remains focused on rejecting the enactment of the TNI Law.
"So, student elements, including BEM SI, are currently joining the action with civil society in their respective regions," Andhika said in a written message to Tempo on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Andhika, who also serves as the 2025 Chairman of BEM UNJ, explained that the demonstration in Jakarta will raise three demands: the call for "Indonesia Gelap," the repeal of the revision of Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI, and the rejection of the Draft Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Indonesian National Police or the Police Bill
He emphasized that the movement is not limited to students from various universities but also includes civil society elements such as workers and laborers. Similar protests are also being held in various regions across Indonesia, though the only confirmed location at the moment is Bogor.
"The information I received is that there will also be a demonstration at the Bogor Regional People's Representative Council today," he said.
When contacted separately, Director of Amnesty International Indonesia, Usman Hamid, reaffirmed the demonstration’s objective of urging the government to immediately repeal the TNI Law.
"Militarism and oligarchy increasingly threaten our democracy. The revision of the TNI Law paves the way for the military to enter the civilian domain, contrary to the mandate of the reform that asserts civilian supremacy," Usman stated on Thursday.
In addition to rejecting the TNI Law, the demonstration will also oppose the Police Bill. Usman warned that the third revision of Law Number 2 of 2002 could lead to excessive police authority, increasing state repression.
"The Police Bill has the potential to provide excessive authority that can strengthen state repressive control," he said.
Chairman of the Central Initiative, Al Araf, also confirmed the rally. He distributed a pamphlet with "Action Jakarta Melawan" prominently displayed, along with hashtags such as #CabutUUTNI, #TolakUUPolri, and #IndonesiaGelap against a striking red and black background.
The pamphlet stated that today's demonstration will take place around the DPR RI building at 01:30 PM WIB (Westen Indonesia Time), with the statement "All are invited except the authorities!" written at the bottom.
However, Al Araf admitted that he is unsure about the exact number of participants. "I'm not sure how many," he said.
