TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Students from the All-Indonesia Students Executive Board (People's BEM SI) will conduct a protest around the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at noon. The Media Coordinator of People's BEM SI, Pasha Fazillah Afap, stated that the demonstration is held to commemorate National Farmers' Day, which falls today.

"Commemorating National Farmers' Day," said Pasha in a brief message on Wednesday, September 23, 2025.

Pasha has not yet explained the demands that will be presented. In an invitation circulated on Instagram @bemsi.official, the students asked the government to return the people's land.

People's BEM SI sees that in the name of development, many people are displaced from their land. Many forests have turned into buildings. "Fields turn into concrete. Gardens turn into mines. Forests turn into villas. Meanwhile, farmers are beaten, fishermen are expelled, and indigenous people are labeled as wild," he said.

As many as 8,340 personnel from the Indonesian military (TNI), Indonesian National Police (Polri), and the Jakarta Provincial Government were deployed to guard the protests carried out by farmers and other community elements in several locations in Jakarta on Wednesday.

"The strength of the security forces for the protests in Central Jakarta is 8,340 personnel," said the Chief of the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner General Susatyo Purnomo Condro in Jakarta on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara.

According to him, farmers and several community alliances carried out protests in Central Jakarta at various locations, including in front of the Indonesian Parliament Building, the National Monument area, and the ministry. Thousands of joint personnel were deployed to safeguard the progress of the demonstrations. "This security is carried out to ensure the smooth delivery of public aspirations," he said.

Susatyo requested the masses to conduct the protests peacefully and orderly, and prohibited them from burning tires, damaging public facilities, or blocking roads.
