ITB Researchers Lead Indonesia in 2025 World's Top 2% Scientists List

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Stanford University in the United States recently released the World's Top 2% Scientists List 2025, and the highest number of Indonesian scientists on the list are from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), totaling 16 individuals.

According to ITB, they are I Gede Wenten, Ferry Iskandar, Tommy Firman, and Brian Yuliarto, who is now the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. Also included are Grandprix Thomryes Marth Kadja, Agung Wahyu Setiawan, Megawati Zunita, Antonius Indarto, Dwi Hantoko, Suwarno, Rudi Dungani, and Heni Rachmawati. The list further includes Pramudita Satria, Pekik Argo Dahono, Achmad Munir, and Taufiq Hidayat.

Meanwhile, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) has 14 scientists on the list, while the University of Indonesia and Airlangga University each have 13 individuals. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has 11 researchers included, namely Setyo Budi Kurniawan, Ratih Pangestuti, Muhammad Reza Cordova, Andri Frediansyah, Leonard F. Wijaya, Angga Hermawan, Widya Fatriasari, Zulvikar Syambani Ulhaq, Rezzy Eko Caraka, Agung Dwi Laksono, and Aswin Rafif Khairullah.

According to BRIN, the World's Top 2% Scientists list utilizes strict indicators, including the number of scientific publications, citations, and the long-term impact of the research produced. The scientists on this list are recognized for their significant contributions to advancing the world's science and technology.

Head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko, stated that this international recognition is a testament to BRIN's success in creating a conducive research ecosystem. He emphasized that the ranking is not the goal of research, but it can serve as an indicator that the researchers' work is on the right track. He stated, "This is motivation for all BRIN members to continue producing and making a real impact on society," through a press release on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

With the support of facilities, cross-sector collaboration, and sustainable human resource development, BRIN will continue to encourage researchers to produce not only innovative but also globally relevant research.

"In the future, BRIN will strengthen cooperation with various international partners to have more Indonesian research recognized globally," he said. BRIN is committed to supporting researchers in producing beneficial and innovative work while inspiring the younger generation to pursue research careers.
