TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a stern warning for several regions across Indonesia to remain vigilant against moderate to extreme rainfall. According to the official statement released on Sunday, December 28, 2025, the early warning period is effective from December 28 through December 30, 2025.
Of particular concern is Aceh Province, which has been placed under an "alert" status for December 30, 2025, due to projected very heavy to extreme rainfall intensity. "Readiness is key to mitigating the risks of hydrometeorological disasters and extreme weather," the BMKG statement emphasized.
For December 28, 2025, the agency advised several provinces to prepare for moderate to heavy rain, including: Aceh, Riau, Riau Islands, Jambi, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, and various regions in Papua.
A higher "alert" level for heavy to very heavy rain on the same day has been issued for North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, West Java, East Nusa Tenggara, and West Kalimantan.
Moving into December 29, 2025, a "caution" level remains in effect for West Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, Lampung, and several regions across Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua.
Furthermore, the "alert" status for heavy to very heavy rain on December 29 applies to Aceh, North Sumatra, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, East Nusa Tenggara, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi. While no regions are currently under "extreme" alert for that specific day, BMKG has issued a separate early warning for strong winds in the Bali region.
