TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), one of the country’s largest state-owned lenders, has addressed the alleged kidnapping and murder of its Assistant Branch Manager, identified by the initials MIP. BRI President Director, Hery Gunardi, stated that his side is currently conducting a thorough internal investigation into the matter.
"We are currently conducting an in-depth investigation into the employee who passed away. We are also concerned that he was apparently kidnapped. I saw in the video that he was taken from the car, put into another car, and then suddenly he [was found] dead this morning," he said during a meeting with the House of Representatives' Commission VI at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Regarding the motive behind the kidnapping and murder, BRI is also awaiting updates from the police. Hery stated that they are still investigating whether the crime was related to debt collection or other matters.
"Whether it is related to debt collection or how, we have not received any information yet; the police are currently conducting an in-depth investigation for that. If there is any positive news, we will update," Hery added.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Earlier, reports emerged that BRI's Branch Manager in Jakarta, with the initials MIP, was allegedly kidnapped and murdered at a shopping center in Ciracas, East Jakarta.
"Yes, that's true, we received the report earlier this morning," said the Head of the East Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Sr. Comr. Dicky, as quoted by Antara.
He mentioned that a joint team from the East Jakarta Police and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police immediately began investigating at the crime scene. Dicky stated that the victim was not only kidnapped but also murdered, and his body was discovered a few days later in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency.
The General Crime Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police subsequently arrested four men suspected of kidnapping MIP.
"The individuals with the initials AT, RS, RAH were arrested at Jalan Johar Baru III No. 42, Central Jakarta, while the individual with the initial RW was arrested when about to leave from NTT airport, attempting to escape," stated the Sub-Directorate of Mobile Crime Investigation (Resmob) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, Adj. Sr. Comr. Resa Fiardi Marasabessy.
However, Resa stopped short of disclosing the full details of the arrests or the motives of the perpetrators. He only confirmed that the four individuals were involved in the kidnapping of MIP. "The in-depth investigation is still ongoing and efforts are being made to pursue the involvement of other suspects," he said.
