TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brunei Darussalam U-23 national team coach Aminuddin Jumat stated that his team has learned a lot from the 0-8 defeat to the Indonesia U-23 national team at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
In the first match of Group A of the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup, Aminuddin mentioned that his team learned from Indonesia's style of play, which he believes was excellent as a team.
"We can take advantage of this to be able to compete against strong teams. So, tonight we competed against Indonesia," Aminuddin said at a press conference after the match in Jakarta on Tuesday.
"They were able to move, communicate well between players, and their decision-making was impressive. So, our players can learn from this match."
Indonesia scored seven goals in the first half but couldn't replicate the same quality of play in the second half, only managing to score one goal.
Jens Raven scored six goals in this match, five of which happened in the first half.
When asked what he did in the locker room during the break, the 39-year-old coach replied, "Of course, to refresh and ensure they can think clearly."
"They were able to show it (in the second half). Although we conceded again. However, this is a good moment for us to prepare for the next match," he explained.
In the second match, Brunei will face Malaysia on Friday, 18 July. Malaysia also suffered a defeat in their first match, losing 0-2 to the Philippines.
"Now I can't say much because I need to refresh my mind first, then discuss tomorrow and prepare for the second match," Aminuddin said regarding the preparation against Malaysia.
This defeat puts Brunei in the bottom position of Group A's standings with a goal difference of minus eight. Malaysia is in third place with the same points, while Indonesia and the Philippines are in the top two positions, each with three points.
