Direct Pyongyang-Moscow Flights to Launch July 27, 2025

2 months ago 25

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Russian Ministry of Transportation announced on Monday that direct flights between Moscow and Pyongyang will begin on July 27, 2025, marking the first air connection between the capital of Russia and North Korea.

Nordwind Airlines, a low-cost Russian airline, will operate one flight each month, with a travel time of approximately eight hours. This decision follows the recent approval by Rosaviatsiya for regular air travel between the two countries.

This will mark the first time the capitals of North Korea and Russia are connected through direct air service.

"This is the first time the capitals of Russia and the DPRK will be linked by direct flights," the Russian ministry said in a statement as quoted by Anadolu, adding that this service aims to gradually build stable demand.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that Moscow and Pyongyang are working to expand air connections, following the resumption of train services in June.

This new air route follows the recent approval by Russian aviation authorities of Nordwind's request last month to operate direct flights between Pyongyang and Moscow twice a week.

Currently, as reported by the Korea Times, North Korea and Russia only have direct flights between Pyongyang and Vladivostok.

As the two countries have emerged as key partners for bilateral exchange and cooperation after signing a joint defense agreement last June, they have enhanced collaboration in various fields, including transportation.

Last month, the two countries resumed direct train services between Pyongyang and Moscow, as well as between Pyongyang and Khabarovsk, following the COVID-19 suspension. In April, they also began constructing a road bridge connecting them across the Tumen River.

While visiting the North Korean eastern coastal city of Wonsan last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia plans to restore sea transportation routes between the two countries.
