Emmy Nominations 2025 List: 'Squid Game' Notably Absent

13 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe 2025 Emmy nominations have finally been announced, just a few months ahead of the awards ceremony in September. Actors Harvey Guillen and Brenda Song unveiled the nominations in style, taking center stage at the Television Academy’s Wolf Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

The 2025 Emmy Awards are scheduled to air live on Sunday, September 14, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, with comedian Nate Bargatze assigned as the host.

This year, the TV Academy spotlighted Apple TV+’s mind-bending drama Severance, showering it with an impressive 27 Emmy nominations. Not far behind, HBO’s gritty Batman spin-off, The Penguin, swooped in with 24 nods, securing its place as the second-most nominated show of the season.

Matching that number, The Studio also made waves, effortlessly racking up 24 nominations for its standout performance in 2025. Meanwhile, streaming giant Netflix saw more modest success, with its coming-of-age breakout, Adolescence, earning a respectable 13 nominations.

Despite its record-shattering success, Squid Game seasons 2 and 3 were noticeably absent from the 2025 Emmy nominations. Earlier this year, Netflix reported that Squid Game 2 accumulated over 68 million views, while Squid Game surged to the top of Netflix’s global charts within just 24 hours of its release. Despite dominating viewer numbers, critical recognition from the TV Academy did not follow suit.
