TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A local festivity held to celebrate the wedding of West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi’s son, Maula Akbar Mulyadi Putra, and Garut Vice Regent Luthfianisa Putri Karlina ended in tragedy. Three people died during the event, including two civilians and one police officer.
The crowd gathered near the pavilion where public entertainment was set up. Chaos erupted when people pushed through the main gate, trying to enter the area. Several people fainted and had to be evacuated by security and medical personnel.
Identities of the Victims
Authorities confirmed the identities of the three victims. The first victim was Vania Aprilia, an 8-year-old girl from Sukamentri Sub-district in Garut. The second victim, Dewi Jubaedah, was 61 years old. Her place of origin remains unclear. The third was a police officer, Bripka Cecep Saeful Bahri, 39 years old. His address has not yet been confirmed.
The two civilian victims are currently being held at the mortuary of dr. Slamet Regional General Hospital. The police officer was taken to Guntur Army Hospital.
Governor Dedi Mulyadi Offers Compensation
Governor Dedi Mulyadi expressed condolences and pledged compensation for the families of the victims. He announced through his Instagram account on Friday, July 18, 2025, that each family would receive Rp150 million in financial assistance.
“Without diminishing respect, we provide condolences of Rp 150 million to each family,” Dedi stated.
He also promised to take responsibility for the families, including funding the education of the victims’ children until they reach college. He apologized to the grieving families and assured them of his ongoing support.
Police Investigation Underway
Garut Police Chief Commissioner Yugi Bayu Hendarto confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. Police are reviewing the circumstances that led to the incident, including testimony from event organizers.
Yugi said the police had coordinated with various agencies ahead of the event. A total of 400 personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces, Public Order Agency, Transportation Agency, and Mobile Brigade were deployed to secure the area.
However, authorities have yet to determine whether negligence played a role. The event drew large crowds due to the promise of free food and entertainment. “The enthusiasm was high,” Yugi said.
Profiles of the Newlyweds
Maula Akbar Mulyadi Putra is the eldest son of Governor Dedi Mulyadi and currently serves as a member of the West Java Regional People’s Representative Council for the 2024-2029 period. Born on November 4, 1999, he is also known as "Bapak Aing" among supporters.
His bride, Luthfianisa Putri Karlina, is the eldest daughter of Inspector General Karyoto, Chief of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, and Lina Iskandar. Born on March 14, 1993, she is a mother of three and began her political career in the 2024 local elections.
The wedding ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 01:00 PM local time at the Garut Regency Pavilion. The high-profile marriage between two prominent political families drew significant public attention across West Java.
