TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian U-23 national team annihilates Brunei Darussalam in the first match of Group A at the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup with an 8-0 score for the Young Garuda. The game took place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on July 15, 2025.

Jens Raven emerged as the star of the match with a double hat-trick, scoring six goals. The significant win against Brunei puts Indonesia at the top of Group A with three points. The Philippines is in second place after a 2-0 victory over Malaysia.

Match Highlights

The coach of the Indonesian U-23 national team, Gerald Vanenburg, fielded Muhammad Ardiansyah as the goalkeeper. In the defense line were Muhammad Ferarri, Brandon Scheunemann, Achmad Maulana, and Dony Tri Pamungkas. Midfielders were Robi Darwis, Toni Firmansyah, and Arkhan Fikri. Up front, Gerald Vanenburg placed Rayhan Hannan, Rahmat Arjuna, and Jens Raven as the attacking trio.

Two minutes into the game, Indonesia scored the first goal through Jens Raven, and another just a few minutes after. The score was 2-0 in favor of Indonesia.

Hannan became Indonesia's offense from the wing, resulting in Indonesia's third goal in the 20th minute. The combination between Hannan and Robi Darwis' play culminated in a powerful strike by Arkhan Fikri from outside the penalty box. The ball found the back of Khairul Hisyam's net.

For the first 20 minutes, Indonesia's dominance was evident in the match statistics. Indonesia had 85% ball possession compared to Brunei's 15%. Indonesia had also created 14 goal-scoring opportunities.

After 30 minutes, Brunei's defense crumbled, paving the way for Jans Raven to score the fourth and fifth goals for Indonesia.

In the 35th minute, Rayhan Hannan also scored a goal with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area. The score stood at 6-0 in favor of the Indonesia U-23 National Team.

Jens Raven scored his fifth goal in the 41st minute from the penalty spot. Indonesia was awarded a penalty after Rahmat Arjuna was fouled inside the penalty box. He successfully executed the penalty. The score remained 7-0 in favor of Indonesia until the end of the first half.

Second Half

Gerald Vanenburg made significant changes to the team after the break. He introduced Frengky Missa, Althaf Alrizky, Firman Juliansyah, Yardan Yafi, and replaced Arjuna, Arkhan Fikri, Hannan, and Dony Tri Pamungkas.

The young Garuda squad continued to dominate. However, the players utilized more long passes towards the opponents' defense. Althaf and Missa had several chances but failed to convert them into goals.

Only on the 62nd minute did Indonesia manage to breach Brunei's defense again. Starting from a long pass by Ferrari, Raven received the ball and won a sprint against a Brunei player. His shot once again eluded the goalkeeper, Khairul Hisyam. The score was 8-0 in favor of Indonesia.

The tempo of the game decreased after this goal. The Brunei players attempted more counterattacks but were unsuccessful. The statistics of the second half showed Indonesia's 85% ball possession and eight goal-scoring opportunities, while Brunei only had two. The score remained 8-0 for Indonesia until the final whistle was blown.
