TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Mongolia have agreed to bolster bilateral trade ties after recording a 74 percent growth in trade last year. This was conveyed by the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Sugiono, during a bilateral meeting with his Mongolian counterpart, Battsetseg Batmunkh, at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs building on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
During the meeting, both countries emphasized the importance of facilitating closer relations between the two countries' chambers of commerce to explore various untapped business potentials.
"I believe we also exchanged information and insights on the regional and global conditions and how we can navigate these situations," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
This meeting also marks the upcoming celebration of Indonesia-Mongolia's 70 years of diplomatic relations next year. Minister Sugiono emphasized that the seven-decade-long diplomatic ties are evidence of the friendship and closeness between the two countries since the early days of Indonesian independence.
As a concrete step to bolster bilateral relations, both foreign ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations aimed at encouraging regular dialogue and forging an understanding of the common interests of both countries in facing regional and global issues.
The Indonesian and Mongolian foreign ministers are optimistic that economic and trade cooperation between both countries will bloom alongside the implementation of various agreements resulting from the bilateral meeting.
