TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has designated Mohammad Riza Chalid as a suspect in a money laundering case. "It's been since July," said Anang Supriatna, Head of the AGO's Legal Information Center, on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The designation of Riza as a money laundering suspect is a direct result of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption in the management of crude oil and refinery products at Pertamina, a state-owned oil and gas giant.
Chalid was first named a suspect in the Pertamina corruption case on July 10, 2025. According to Anang, the AGO designated him as a money laundering suspect the very next day. In total, 18 people have been named suspects in the crude oil management case, including Riza's son, Muhammad Kerry Adrianto.
Assets Seized and International Pursuit
In connection with the case, the AGO has seized several assets believed to belong to Riza. The seized vehicles include a white BMW 528, a Toyota Rush, two Mitsubishi Pajero Sports, a Toyota Alphard, a Mini Cooper, and three Mercedes sedans.
Investigators seized these vehicles from parties affiliated with Riza, suspecting that the assets were deliberately disguised under others' names.
Anang also stated that investigators are actively pursuing Riza's assets both inside and outside the country.
However, the Attorney General's Office has not yet detained Riza because he had already left Indonesia before being designated a suspect in the Pertamina corruption case. Riza Chalid was last located in Malaysia.
Tempo has since obtained a photograph of Chalid with Puro Handoko, a representative of Gemcorp Capital, at a well-known hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, June 20, 2025.
To secure the oil mogul, the AGO has submitted a red notice request to Interpol through the Indonesian National Police Headquarters. If approved, Chalid will officially become an international fugitive. His Indonesian passport has been revoked, but he is suspected of possessing another passport.
