TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The central leadership of the National Mandate Party, or PAN, has suspended the party's secretary general, Eko Hendro Purnomo, familiarly known as Eko Patrio, and Surya Utama, or Uya Kuya, from its faction at the House of Representatives (DPR), as of Monday, September 1, 2025.
This decision was announced by the deputy chair of PAN, Viva Yoga Mauladi, in his written statement on Sunday, August 31, 2025. Viva wrote, "PAN urges the public to remain calm, patient, and to fully trust the government led by President Prabowo Subianto."
Viva also extended apologies from PAN to Indonesian citizens. Yesterday, a crowd of people stormed the residences of several House members on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Overnight, they vandalized and looted various belongings from the luxurious homes of three lawmakers, namely Ahmad Sahroni, Eko Patrio, and Uya Kuya.
Ahmad Sahroni was the deputy chair of House Commission III before being transferred to become a member of Commission I. Meanwhile, Eko Patrio was a member of Commission IV which oversees trade and state enterprises, while Uya Kuya was in Commission XI, responsible for financial matters.
The crowd stormed Ahmad Sahroni's house in the Tanjung Priok area of North Jakarta on Saturday evening at around 5:30 p.m. local time. They looted several items belonging to the lawmaker, including chairs, wardrobes, suitcases, watches, a sum of cash, a refrigerator, and a safe containing U.S. dollars.
A luxurious car parked in Sahroni's garage was also damaged, as seen from a live broadcast on TikTok by those present at the scene. Netizens who watched the broadcast then urged others to continue looting at the residences of Eko Patrio and Uya Kuya.
Subsequently, almost at the same time, hundreds of different individuals paid a visit to Eko Patrio's house on Karang Asem 1 Street, Kuningan, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, and Uya Kuya's house in the Duren Sawit area of East Jakarta. At midnight, they seized the lawmakers' belongings, including the household's pet cats.
Eko Patrio was criticized after posting a parody video on his personal TikTok account, @ekopatriosuper, dancing around and mocking those who were angered by footage of parliament members dancing during an annual session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) on Friday, August 15, 2025.
Uya Kuya became the target of public outrage after responding similarly to the issue. According to him, dancing around during the plenary meeting is normal, likening House members to "celebrities."
