TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto is encouraging global investment company Temasek Holdings to expand its investments in Indonesia. Airlangga made this statement after receiving a visit from Lee Theng Kiat, Chair of Singtel and a Temasek Board Member, on Friday, July 18, 2025.
The Singaporean global investment company is considered to play a vital role in Indonesia's business landscape, particularly through capital injection schemes in several startup companies.
"The government is ready to facilitate the increase of Temasek's investments in the country," Airlangga said in a statement quoted on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
During the meeting, they discussed potential investment opportunities in Indonesia. Airlangga was introduced to the Temasek Board Members, and they deliberated on the role of Temasek Holdings as a global investment company.
The former Minister of Industry also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in green energy and the energy transition between Indonesia and Singapore. Airlangga expressed his support for Temasek's commitment, through Sembcorp Urban in early 2025, to build green industrial areas in West Java, Tanjung Sauh, and Tembesi, Batam.
Meanwhile, Lee stated that Indonesia remains an important partner in the development of Temasek's investment portfolio in the Southeast Asian region.
"In the future, Temasek will continue to develop existing investments in Indonesia and explore other cooperation opportunities," Lee said.
Danantara: Indonesia's National Wealth Fund
Temasek is a Singaporean state-owned enterprise established in 1974. President Prabowo Subianto once mentioned that Indonesia's own national wealth fund, Danantara, aims to emulate the success of the global investment company.
This statement was made directly in front of Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. "Another achievement of Singapore that we proudly emulate is the national wealth fund that you have, Temasek. A few months ago, we started our own national wealth fund, which we call Danantara," Prabowo said, as reported by Antara.
As an investment company, Temasek's portfolio is highly diverse, covering various sectors globally such as financial services, telecommunications, media, technology, transportation, energy, environment, and health.
Temasek also has significant investments in Indonesia through its subsidiaries, including ST Engineering, Singtel, and Sembcorp, which are part of the business networks of Siloam International Hospitals, Telkomsel, Matahari Putra Prima, DBS Bank, Olam International, Sembcorp Industries, and Koppel Corporation.
