Indonesian Exports Value with Egypt Hits US$1.59bn, Highest in Africa

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's trade with Egypt hits record high in 2025, as reflected by the Indonesian exports value of US$1.59 billion 10 months into the year, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) report.  This achievement positions Egypt as Indonesia's largest export destination in Africa and ranks third in the Middle East region.

Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt, Lutfi Rauf, said a boldened trade ties between the two countries is reflected in the significant growth in trade value. Indonesia and Egypt recorded a 37.16 percent growth in overall trade as of October 2025, compared to the same period last year.

"Indonesian exports value to Egypt reaches US$1.59 billion, making it the largest in Africa," said Lutfi Rauf during a visit to the Al Shorouk Company for Import and Export plantation in Wadi Al Netroun, Menofia Province, Egypt, as quoted from a written statement on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

Indonesia and Egypt have recorded positive trade growth for the past five years, with an average growth of 5.77 percent. This year, the trade balance surplus also remained in Indonesia's favor, reaching a value of US$1.23 billion.

In detail, Indonesia's exports to Egypt during January-October 2025 grew by 25.20 percent compared to the same period the previous year. In comparison, Egypt's exports to Indonesia surged even higher at 139 percent, despite a smaller value. 

Indonesian products are seeing an increased demand in Egyptian markets, said Trade Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, M. Syahran Bhakti. These commodities include palm oil and its derivatives, coffee, coconut and its derivatives, yarn, paper, cocoa powder, footwear, steel, cocoa fat, as well as spices such as nutmeg and cloves.

"There have been around 360 Indonesian product items that have entered the Egyptian market," said Syahran.

On the other hand, Egyptian products noted increased Indonesian imports, including phosphate, potatoes, molasses, dried vegetables, dates, asphalt, citrus, mineral fertilizer, grains, and telephone devices. Currently, there are a total of 84 Egyptian product items circulating in the Indonesian market.

During the visit,the  CEO of Al Shorouk Company for Import and Export, Eng. Shaaban Hashad expressed appreciation for Indonesia's interest in strengthening trade cooperation with Egypt. He hoped to forge partnerships with Indonesian fruit importers.
