TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's North Sumatra Regional Police's Narcotics Investigation Directorate has uncovered the trafficking of 20 kilograms of methamphetamine from a network originating in Malaysia. The methamphetamine was allegedly destined for distribution within North Sumatra.

Police have arrested four suspects, AL, AG, IB, and SN, who were involved in the methamphetamine shipment. The case was uncovered following a public tip-off regarding a planned drug transaction on Jalan Perintis Sijambi, Datuk Bandar District, Tanjung Balai City.

"The team conducted an investigation at the location and successfully secured a Mitsubishi Xpander containing two suspects, AL, 21, and AG, 23," said the Director of Narcotics Investigation at the North Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Calvijn Simanjuntak, in a written statement on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

At the time of AL and AG's arrest on June 27, 2025, police were unable to find any drug evidence in the car. Both men admitted to handing the methamphetamine to another suspect, IB.

Police then arrested IB in Aek Teluk Kiri, Teluk Dalam District, Asahan Regency. IB further stated that the methamphetamine was stored by suspect SN, 41, in Tanjung Balai.

Finally, 20 kilograms of methamphetamine were confiscated from suspect SN, who was arrested in Gang Keluarga, Sirantau Village, Datuk Bandar District. The 20 kilograms were packaged in packages labeled 'Angel 246 Team One'.

SN admitted that he obtained the methamphetamine from an individual with the initials H, who is currently on the Wanted Persons List (DPO). H is known to reside in Malaysia and is suspected of controlling the network.
