Iran Hails Indonesia's Unwavering Support for Palestine

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, thanked Indonesia for supporting Palestine. In his statement delivered on Monday, March 24, 2025, Boroujerdi appreciated the government, Islamic groups, various community organizations, political parties, and media in Indonesia that have shown solidarity with the people of Palestine.

"I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation and gratitude to the government, the public, Islamic groups, various community organizations, political parties, and various community groups in Indonesia who have supported Palestinians," said Boroujerdi.

The Iranian Ambassador stated that the closeness between Iran and Indonesia lies in their joint commitment to protect the oppressed from the atrocities committed by the Israeli Zionists. "This is what brings Indonesia and Iran closer, namely to protect the oppressed from the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime of Israel," he said.

Boroujerdi also highlighted the disparity in global attention towards Muslim casualties in various conflict areas. He criticized how the killing of Muslims in several conflict areas is often considered commonplace by the international public opinion, while the deaths of Westerners receive significant attention.

"What we are witnessing is that when a citizen of America, Europe, the Israeli Zionist regime, or any other country is killed somewhere, their government is very vocal. But when we talk about the killing of 300 or 500 Muslim people, it seems very normal," he said.

Ambassador Boroujerdi reminded that the victims of conflict are not just statistical figures, but individuals with families and their own lives. "Moreover, those killed, hundreds of them, are all individuals with families," he added, emphasizing the humanitarian dimension of the tragedy.

He also called for the importance of preventing the normalization of violence against Muslims and for a "media onslaught" to reveal the truth and advocate for the rights of the Palestinians at the international level. According to Boroujerdi, the media plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and ensuring justice for the victims of the conflict.

"Do not let this become the norm," Boroujerdi emphasized, adding that protecting the oppressed is a shared trust that must be realized through published reports.

Boroujerdi also congratulated the appointment of Rolliansyah Soemirat, or Roy, as the Indonesian Ambassador to Iran. Roy served as the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before being appointed by President Prabowo Subianto to his new position on Monday, March 24, 2025.

"Today I heard the news that my good friend, Mr. Rolliansyah, has been appointed Ambassador to Iran. He is a very good friend of mine and Iran," said Boroujerdi during a press conference at the official residence of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Central Jakarta, on Monday evening, March 24, 2025.

Boroujerdi is confident that Roy can develop good relations between Indonesia and Iran. He also believes that the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran can operate well under Roy's leadership. "My best wishes to him, Indonesia and Iran-Indonesia relations," he said.
