TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Israeli military has once again stated that they have intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Yemen on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. According to a report from Times of Israel, they accused the missile of being launched by the Houthi group, supported by Iran, and aimed at southern Israel.
The Israeli military stated that warning sirens sounded in several communities around the Dead Sea.
"After sirens sounded in several areas in Israel, one missile launched from Yemen was intercepted," said the Israeli military's statement. As of now, there has been no party claiming responsibility for the launch.
Accusations Against Houthi Attacks
Israel mentioned that the Houthi group has repeatedly attacked Israel with missiles and drones since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023. These attacks are described as a form of support for the Palestinian people.
Since March 18, when the Israeli military launched an operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Houthi were also said to have launched 61 ballistic missiles and at least 15 drones towards Israel.
According to a report from The Jerusalem Post, a similar incident occurred last week, when rocket sirens were heard in Jerusalem and central Israel. At that time, the Israeli military also claimed to have successfully intercepted a missile launched from Yemen.
Seizure of Weapon Shipments from Iran
On the same day, the National Resistance Forces (NRF), an armed coalition in Yemen opposed to the Houthi, also claimed to have thwarted the delivery of weapons from Iran to the Houthi group. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) stated in X that the NRF seized more than 750 tons of ammunition and military equipment.
"The NRF seized more than 750 tons of ammunition and equipment, including hundreds of cruise missiles, anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles, warheads and seekers, components, hundreds of drone engines, air defense equipment, radar systems, and communication devices," wrote CENTCOM. The NRF is led by General Tareq Saleh.
Israel also stated that Houthi attacks not only targeted Israel but also ships passing through the Gulf of Aden, which is said to have ties to Israel. In response, Israel has launched several attacks on Yemen, including an attack on the port of Hodeidah in early July, as reported by Gulf News.
As of July 14, 2025, the Gaza Health Ministry noted that the number of casualties since the start of the war on October 7, 2023, has exceeded 58,000 people.
This figure has increased again after the recent airstrikes launched by Israel on July 13, targeting densely populated areas in the Gaza Strip. The airstrikes hit a market in the city of Gaza and a water distribution location in the Nuseirat refugee camp, resulting in the death of 95 Palestinian civilians.
