TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Car-Free Day (CFD) event in Jakarta for Sunday, May 25, 2025, has been canceled. Syafrin Lupito, the head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, stated that CFD is temporarily suspended because Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang is arriving in Indonesia.
"There is a state guest, the Chinese Prime Minister, whose activities will cross the Sudirman-Thamrin area," Syafrin confirmed on Friday, May 23, 2025.
The Sudirman-Thamrin roads are indeed the designated location for Jakarta's CFD. The suspension of this routine weekly activity is in accordance with regional regulations governing internationally significant events. Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 12 of 2016, Article 5, Paragraph 1, stipulates that motor vehicle-free days can be canceled if special national or international level activities are simultaneously taking place.
The regulation further states, "These activities require special traffic arrangements and security."
Cabinet Secretary Lt. Col. Teddy Indra Wijaya has also confirmed Li Qiang's visit to Indonesia, stating that the Chinese Prime Minister will arrive in Jakarta on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
The following day, Li Qiang is scheduled to meet with President Prabowo. Teddy, however, has not yet disclosed the meeting's location. "Indeed, PM Li Qiang will come to Indonesia," he told the media in Jakarta on Friday, May 23, 2025.
This visit will mark Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang's first to Indonesia during President Prabowo Subianto's administration. PM Li Qiang's last visit to Indonesia was on September 5, 2023, when he attended a series of high-level ASEAN conferences, including the ASEAN-China Summit (10+1), the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Summit, and the East Asia Summit.
