TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The light rail transit, or LRT Jabodebek, will add two trainsets or train carriages next month. With the addition of these two trainsets, the total fleet of LRT Jabodebek will become 26 sets.
Executive Vice President of LRT Jabodebek Division, Mochamad Purnomosidi, said that the physical preparation for adding these trainsets has been completed, and they are ready to operate. "The addition of trainsets to make it 26 will, Insha Allah, be at the beginning of the month, hopefully on the 1st. Physically, we have prepared for it, and it's just a matter of running it. Insha Allah, it will be on the 1st or the 2nd," he said during a media discussion in Menteng, Jakarta, on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
In principle, Purnomosidi said that the addition of LRT Jabodebek train carriages aims to shorten the headway and increase the train frequency. He said that there might be a shift in the train operation schedule.
"In the beginning, the departures might be slightly earlier, but not significantly, maybe 3-4 minutes. Then, towards the end, close to 24.00, it will also get longer, but not by much," he said.
LRT Jabodebek recorded a 57 percent increase in the number of passengers in its second year of operation. From August 28, 2023, to August 27, 2024, the first year of operation, the LRT Jabodebek recorded 16,999,647 passengers. Meanwhile, from August 28, 2024, to August 26, 2025, the number of passengers increased to 26,697,014 users.
In the two years of operation, LRT Jabodebek has served 43,696,661 users. He said the growth in users shows increasing trust in LRT Jabodebek.
LRT Jabodebek also recorded an increase in the average daily number of passengers, both on weekdays and weekends. The daily average number of weekday passengers increased from 54,640 in the first year to 90,931 in the second year, a 66.4 percent increase. Meanwhile, the weekend daily average increased from 30,842 to 40,599 users, a 31.6 percent increase.
Purnomosidi said that the presence of LRT Jabodebek not only marks a new chapter in public transportation but also signifies the beginning of a growing bond with the community.
"These numbers are not just statistical records, but a story of millions of journeys made by people who choose LRT Jabodebek for work, school, shopping, meeting family and friends," he said.
