Malaysia Open 2026 Schedule: Eight Indonesian Players Compete

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Eight Indonesian representatives will be opening the 2026 competition season at the BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament Malaysia Open 2026 held in Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday, 7 January 2026.

Indonesia is still chasing their first victory after only fielding one pair on the opening day, Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, who failed to advance to the next round. The debutant pair lost to the fourth-seeded home representatives, Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei, in straight sets 12-21, 17-21.

On the second day of the competition, the men's singles sector becomes one of the highlights. Alwi Farhan is scheduled to face French badminton player, who is the seventh seed, Alex Lanier. Meanwhile, the fourth seed Jonatan Christie will challenge the Taiwanese representative Lee Chia Hao. Jonatan has a favorable record in their previous three encounters.

In the men's doubles sector, there will be a meeting between Indonesian representatives. SEA Games champions Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani will face the debutant pair Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin, who are making their first appearance in a Super 1000 level tournament. The pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri will also start their campaign against the Taiwanese pair Lee Fang Chih/Lee Fang Jen.

Indonesia also fields Putri Kusuma Wardani in the women's singles sector, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari in women's doubles, and Marwan Faza/Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata in mixed doubles.

Malaysia Open 2026 marks the opening event of the world badminton calendar and also serves as an initial performance gauge for Indonesian badminton players in facing a series of major tournaments throughout this season.
