TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) reported that thousands of Malaysian tourists have chosen the Whoosh high-speed train for their travels during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holiday period.
Eva Chairunisa, General Manager Corporate Secretary of KCIC, stated that between 750 and 1,000 Malaysian tourists are using the service daily to travel from Jakarta to Bandung and other popular destinations across West Java.
"Malaysian tourists are taking advantage of the year-end break to explore Bandung and natural attractions such as Lembang and Ciwidey. This demonstrates that Whoosh is more than just transportation; it has become a highlight of the travel experience for international visitors," Eva said in a statement on Sunday, December 28, 2025, as reported by Antara.
According to KCIC data, the high-speed rail service has become a preferred choice for both domestic and international travelers this holiday season. Since December 18, 2025, the service has carried 13,000 international passengers, with Malaysian tourists accounting for 53 percent, or approximately 7,000 passengers.
The long-term data reflects this growing trend. From its launch in 2023 through 2025, Whoosh has served approximately 394,000 international passengers, with 294,000 of them hailing from Malaysia.
Overall passenger volume has also seen a significant spike. As of midday on Sunday, December 28, ticket sales had already hit 16,000, with total ridership for the day expected to reach 23,000. For the entire year-end holiday period, cumulative ticket sales have reached approximately 225,000.
Daily passenger averages currently range from 22,000 to 24,000, representing a 20-30 percent increase over the typical 16,000 to 18,000 passengers seen on regular days.
"KCIC urges both the public and tourists to plan their trips carefully and book tickets in advance through the Whoosh app or our official website. Early reservations ensure seat availability and a more comfortable journey during this busy holiday season," Eva added.
