TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian volleyball star Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi is preparing for her debut with the Manisa BBSK club in Turkey's Women's Volleyball League, Kadinlar 1 Ligi, for the 2025-2026 season. Manisa BBSK has confirmed that the former South Korean Red Sparks player has passed her medical tests and is officially ready to join the team.
"Our player Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi has passed the medical examination at the Metropolitan Private Hospital and will start training today," the Manisa BBSK management stated on their official Instagram page on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
Manisa BBSK expressed its gratitude to the Metropolitan Private Hospital for their support in conducting Megawati's medical examination. After successfully completing her health check, the player nicknamed "Megatron" began training and is now ready for her debut in the Kadinlar 1. Ligi.
The volleyball player from Jember, East Java, will be a crucial addition to Manisa BBSK as the team, having been newly promoted, navigates the competitive second-tier league in Turkey.
Megawati's Impressive Track Record
Megawati joins the Turkish league with an impressive track record. She previously played for the South Korean club, Red Sparks, for two seasons in the South Korean Volleyball League. In her second season, Megawati made significant contributions, helping her team advance to the finals. However, the Red Sparks were unable to secure the championship title, losing in a five-round match against the Pink Spiders with a final score of 3-2.
After the defeat, Megawati chose not to renew her contract with Red Sparks, despite the team's request for her to stay for another season. She then joined Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk Indonesia for the final four of the Proliga 2025. However, due to an incomplete recovery from a previous injury, she was unable to perform at her best and could not help the team reach the grand final.
The 25-year-old was subsequently signed by Manisa BBSK. Although the team began training in July, Megawati's participation with the Indonesian national team at the SEA V League 2025 in Thailand and Vietnam delayed her arrival.
