TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that the construction of People's School phase II will begin in September 2025 and is targeted to be completed by June 2026. This program is a continuation of phase I development that includes the renovation and construction of 63 schools in 24 provinces with a total contract value of Rp 322 billion.
"The implementation of the first phase began on May 10 and was completed within 65 calendar days. For the second phase, the groundbreaking is planned for September," Dody said in a written statement on Tuesday, July 14, 2025.
The People's School is one of the priority programs of President Prabowo Subianto's administration in expanding access to quality education, especially for the poor and those living in remote areas. According to Dody, the Ministry of Public Works is responsible for building infrastructure, while the operational aspects are handed over to the Ministry of Social Affairs.
"This collaboration is important so that the People's School program can run smoothly throughout Indonesia," he said.
Previously, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf stated that the first phase of 63 schools had already started operating on Monday, July 14, 2025. He said that 37 more schools will follow in July, so that 100 People's Schools are targeted to be fully active in early August.
"At present, there are already 9,700 students who will be the first batch. Before entering the dormitory, they will undergo health checks. If anyone is unwell, in accordance with the president's instructions, they must be assisted until they recover," said Saifullah.
