TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Foreign Minister, Sugiono, has asserted that lasting peace is impossible without the independence of Palestine. He conveyed this message at the Arab-Islamic Emergency Summit held in Doha, Qatar.
"There can be no lasting peace without a two-state solution. The path to peace remains the same: the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital," the Foreign Minister declared.
He was representing President Prabowo Subianto, according to a press release from Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, as reported by Antara.
Sugiono's participation in the summit followed President Prabowo's September 12 visit to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. This visit underscores Indonesia's solidarity with Qatar and its ongoing commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause. It also serves to foster international solidarity and maintain regional peace.
During the summit, Sugiono also underscored Indonesia's full support for the Palestinian people.
"We will continue to stand with Qatar, with Palestine, and with all nations that uphold international law and humanity," he stated.
The Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha, led by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, was attended by 22 heads of state and government from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League.
Notable attendees included President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran, Prime Minister Muhammad bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia.
The Doha summit concluded with a Joint Communique that condemned Israel’s attack on Doha as a clear violation of sovereignty and international law.
The statement also reaffirmed solidarity with Qatar and supported the mediation efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. Furthermore, the Communique included a shared commitment to continue promoting the Two-State Solution, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.
The Doha Emergency Summit was a pivotal moment for the Islamic world, demonstrating collective leadership in advocating for peace, justice, and solidarity in the region.
