TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The residence of Ahmad Sahroni, a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) from the National Democratic (NasDem) Party, was attacked by a mob in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon, August 30, 2025. The house appeared badly damaged after being pelted with heavy objects by hundreds of people.
The crowd forced their way through the front gate and entered the property, looting several belongings inside. Live-streamed videos shared by activist groups on social media showed people carrying off valuables from Sahroni’s home.
Among the items reportedly taken were wristwatches, cash, and a cooling unit. His car, toy collection, and figurines were also vandalized, with some found scattered across the floor.
Tempo attempted to reach Sahroni’s aide, Hayfa, for comment but received no response. Similar efforts to contact NasDem Party Secretary-General Hermawi Taslim and Deputy Chairperson Saan Mustopa were unsuccessful.
The attack followed Sahroni’s recent controversial remarks on the debate over dissolving the DPR. He dismissed calls for disbandment as excessive and described those pushing the idea as “stupid people.”
“Does dissolving the DPR really convince the public that governance will run better? Not necessarily,” Sahroni said during a working visit to North Sumatra on Friday, August 22, 2025. He added that while criticism is acceptable, it should not involve personal insults.
His comments quickly went viral and sparked heated debate on social media, propelling his name into trending discussions.
Sahroni later posted on his personal Instagram account, @ahmadsahroni88, uploading a photo of a person wearing an Anonymous mask accompanied by the caption: “More and more foolish people take pride in their foolishness.”
