TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's state-owned highway service company PT Jasa Marga recorded a total of 994,549 vehicles leaving Greater Jakarta this past week, ahead of the Christmas holiday. This marks a 12.1 percent hike compared to regular traffic.
Jasa Marga's President Director, Rivan A. Purwantono, conveyed this data based on observations at four main toll gates. These toll gates include GT Cikupa heading to Merak, GT Ciawi heading to Puncak, GT Cikampek Utama heading to Trans Jawa, and GT Kalihurip Utama heading to Bandung.
"Jasa Marga projects an increase in traffic at the four primary toll gates on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, with 189,280 vehicles or a 35.5 percent hike from normal traffic," Rivan said as quoted from a written statement on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
Majority of the vehicles leaving Greater Jakarta are heading east, totaling 453,441 vehicles or 45.6 percent of the total volume. The traffic is directed toward Trans Jawa and Bandung.
Meanwhile, the traffic flow towards Merak recorded 305,502 vehicles (30.7 percent). Vehicles taking a southern turn toward Puncak are recorded at 235,606 (23.7 percent).
Rivan detailed that the traffic towards Trans Jawa through GT Cikampek Utama reached 229,535 vehicles, a 31.1 percent increase from normal traffic.
Meanwhile, the traffic towards Bandung through GT Kalihurip Utama reached 223,906 vehicles, an increase of 17.8 percent from normal conditions. Eastern traffic flow is up by 24.2 percent compared to normal traffic.
The traffic towards Merak through GT Cikupa recorded a total of 305,502 vehicles, or a 4.2 percent hike, with the traffic toward Puncak via GT Ciawi reaching 235,606 vehicles (2.9 percent hike)
Two days before Christmas, Jasa Marga recorded a significant surge in traffic, with a total of 165,326 vehicles leaving Greater Jakarta.
"The biggest hike occurred at GT Cikampek Utama with 40,489 vehicles. This volume increased by 60.3 percent from normal traffic," said Rivan.
Rivan urged residents to plan their trips carefully, advising drivers to avoid peak traffic hours and keep tabs on traffic information available online.
"Jasa Marga provides real-time information through the Travoy application. The company is committed to ensuring safe, comfortable, and smooth travel during the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year holiday season," he said.
