Over 1,500 Palestinians Killed as Israel Resumes Attacks on Gaza

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - More than 1,500 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed since the Israeli military violated the ceasefire and resumed attacks in mid-March, said the Gaza Health Ministry on Thursday, as reported by Antara.

The Ministry stated that the death toll has reached 1,522 people, with another 3,834 injured since March 18.

The Ministry added that at least 40 people in the enclave had died in the past 24 hours.

On March 18, Israel resumed its bombardment of the Gaza Strip, citing the reason that the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, had rejected the United States' proposal to extend the ceasefire, which was set to expire on March 1.

However, based on the previous agreement, both parties were supposed to enter the second stage of negotiations, with the condition that Israel would permanently withdraw its troops from Gaza in exchange for the release of all hostages.

Israeli occupying forces also cut off the electricity supply to a desalination plant in the Gaza Strip and restricted the entry of trucks carrying humanitarian aid.

As reported by Anadolu, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised last week to escalate attacks on Gaza. This is in support of the efforts of US President Donald Trump's plan to expel Palestinians from the enclave.

More than 50,800 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in Israel's brutal attacks since October 2023, most of them women and children.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants last November for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a case of genocide in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its war in the enclave.
