Over 200,000 Travelers Leave Bali for Java Ahead of Eid Holiday Season

TEMPO.CO, Banyuwangi - General Manager of the Ketapang branch of the ASDP Indonesia Ferry, Yani Andriyanto, said there is a surge in travelers crossing from Bali to Java, amounting to 223,036 people in the last five days.

The number of vehicles crossing to Java Island also grows this year. “The daily average increases by 54 percent from Bali,” said Yani in an official statement received by Tempo on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

Peak homecoming travel from Bali

The upsurge, he said, brings with it a positive outcome. “So the traffic will get lighter as Nyepi approaches. Our prediction remains the same for the homecoming peak, which is on March 26, 27, and 28," he said.

The Banyuwangi Regency government also monitors the homecoming traffic at Ketapang Port. The Deputy Regent of Banyuwangi, Mujiono, said the port is relatively quiet as the crowd is observed at Gilimanuk Port in Bali. 

"It’s still quiet at the Banyuwangi side, but the port manager has prepared anticipatory measures in case of surges, starting from D-13 to D+8 of Eid al-Fitr," said Mujiono.

Eid al-Fitr Holiday in Banyuwangi

Mujiono said the government will partner with ASDP, the police, and other related parties to ensure the success of the return homecoming travel. Additionally, Banyuwangi will also prepare to welcome tourists who want to spend their Eid al-Fitr holiday in Banyuwangi. "Tourists coming to Banyuwangi will be safe, comfortable, and we assure that Banyuwangi is ready to welcome Eid al-Fitr," he said.

The Deputy Regent also checked various facilities at Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi. Such as CCTV monitoring points, integrated security posts, and health services. "Everything is ready. We, from the local government, provide a place for health checks available 24 hours a day. There are three shifts working there," he said.
