PDIP Politician Reveals Megawati's Chances of Being Re-elected as Chairperson

Politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Ganjar Pranowo, revealed the possibility of Megawati Soekarnoputri being re-elected as the General Chairperson of PDIP in this year's congress. The former governor of Central Java stated that the majority of party cadres at the grassroots level want Soekarno's eldest daughter to lead the party once again.

"If we look at the trend, the voices from the grassroots are indeed like that," said Ganjar when asked by the media about the party cadres' desire for Megawati to continue her leadership, in Central Jakarta, on Tuesday night, April 15, 2025.

As for the PDIP Congress, Ganjar stated that there is no specific date for the implementation of the agenda. According to him, the party's internal affairs are still considering an auspicious day to hold the postponed five-yearly agenda since the end of 2024. "Not yet (specific). But it will be this year," he said.

The PDIP Congress, which should have been held every five years, was supposed to be held in 2024 after the 5th congress in 2019. Due to the busy national agenda following the 2024 General Election, the implementation of the 6th PDIP Congress was postponed. It was initially scheduled to be held this month, but the plan was canceled.

For your information, Megawati has always been elected as the general chairperson of PDIP since the first PDIP congress until the latest, which was the 5th congress in 2019.

Last May, rumors surfaced about the possibility of Megawati not holding the position as PDIP chairperson anymore. At that time, Megawati jokingly asked her daughter, Puan Maharani, to replace her as the General Chairperson.
