Perplexity AI Seeks to Pave the Way for TikTok in the US

PERPLEXITY AI , an artificial intelligence-based search engine developer, has submitted a bid to rebuild TikTok in America. This comes after previously proposing to take over the operation of the social media platform in the United States (US) in early 2025.

Perplexity AI has put forward an offer to reconstruct TikTok in the United States. The plan includes rebuilding the algorithm, adding Community Notes features, and integrating short videos into its search engine, as quoted from Antara.

What is Perplexity AI?

Perplexity AI is an artificial intelligence-based search engine that combines chatbot functions with real-time information retrieval. Unlike search engines that only display lists of websites, Perplexity AI provides comprehensive answers with source references, as cited from Zapier.

The technology used by Perplexity AI involves various large language models (LLM), including GPT-4, Claude 3, Mistral Large, and their own custom model. With this combination, Perplexity AI comprehends user queries in depth and provides relevant answers.

Perplexity AI offers two types of searches. Quick Search is designed to provide quick and concise answers. As for Pro Search, it delves deeper into user needs and can provide more specific responses, including asking further questions to refine search results.

The main advantage of Perplexity AI is its ability to present up-to-date information quickly. This search engine indexes the Internet daily, also capable of providing real-time results such as live football scores.

Perplexity AI faces competition from various companies that also seek to take over TikTok. TikTok could potentially be banned from operating in the United States, unless its Chinese-based parent company ByteDance sells it to an American entity. American investors in ByteDance are considering a deal with Oracle to alleviate concerns of President Donald Trump's administration regarding TikTok ownership.

Despite facing numerous competitors, Perplexity AI claims that they are the best choice to manage TikTok. "Perplexity is uniquely positioned to rebuild the TikTok algorithm without creating a monopoly. With world-class technical capabilities and independence as a small tech company, we can prevent domination by major players in the short video and information retrieval ecosystem," stated Perplexity AI in their official statement.

Perplexity AI plans to rebuild the TikTok recommendation algorithm from scratch and make the For You feed open source. Perplexity proposes adding Community Notes features and citation systems similar to those used in their search engine, to make TikTok a neutral and trustworthy platform worldwide.
