Pink Spiders Crowned V-League Champions Despite Megawati Hangestri's Top Performance for Red Sparks

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Megawati Hangestri's efforts were not enough to secure victory for the Red Sparks in the final match of the South Korean Women's Volleyball League (V-League) 2024/2025 season. Despite the Indonesian player achieving the highest individual score of the game, her team was defeated 2-3 by the Pink Spiders in the final match held at the Samsan Incheon Gymnasium on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

This fifth match of the finals series was played after both teams had achieved a 2-2 draw in the preceding four games. Playing on their home court, the Pink Spiders rallied their strength and ultimately prevailed with set scores of 26-24, 26-24, 24-26, 23-25, and 15-13.

With a final match score of 3-2, the Pink Spiders were crowned champions of the V-League 2024/2025, marking their fifth championship title in the last six years.

This final match became one of the most epic duels in V-League history. It also marked the concluding performance for South Korean volleyball legend Kim Yeon-kyung, who had previously announced her retirement at the end of this season.

The Korean volleyball queen delivered a remarkable performance in her final appearance, contributing the most points for her team with a total of 34, including seven crucial blocks. Kim Yeon-kyung's attack success rate reached an impressive 42.62 percent.

Despite Kim Yeon-kyung's significant contribution, the total points she amassed were still fewer than those achieved by Megawati Hangestri. In this pivotal match, Megawati once again emerged as the highest scorer, as in the two previous games of the finals series, with a tally of 37 points.
