TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The Tangerang Metropolitan Police arrested 37 thugs during the large-scale patrol operation, Operation Jaya 2025, in the Ciledug, Larangan, and Karang Tengah areas of Tangerang City on Saturday night, May 17, 2025.
"A total of 37 individuals are suspected of being involved in thuggery in groups or as individuals," said Commissioner Zain Dwi Nugroho, the Tangerang Metropolitan Police Chief, on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
Zain mentioned that the large-scale preventive patrol against thuggery in the Ciledug area involved a total of 137 personnel. The police also followed up on public complaints through the 110 call center and complaint services via WhatsApp at 082211110110 and the social media account of the Tangerang Metropolitan Police.
Results of the operation in the Puribeta area, the police arrested 13 thugs. In addition to being involved in thuggery, some of the individuals who were captured were holding a booze party.
In the Mencong area, 10 individuals were arrested. Two of them were only 16 years old and had dropped out of school. In the CBD Ciledug, the police arrested 14 people. Some of them were members of organizations who often collected money under the guise of mentorship fees from a number of merchants. "A total of 37 individuals will be documented and brought to the Tangerang Metropolitan Police," he said.
The police confiscated evidence of alcohol and a sum of money believed to be obtained through extortion, as well as receipts as evidence of organizations demanding money from merchants under the pretext of mentorship fees during the Operation Jaya arrest operation.
The jurisdiction of the Ciledug Police Sector covers 3 sub-districts, namely Ciledug, Karang Tengah, and Larangan. According to Zain, the high population density and the presence of numerous organizations in the area have led to an increased potential for thuggery activities carried out by thugs disguised as members of organizations.
