TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from the European and French Foreign Minister, Jean-Nol Barrot, at the Merdeka Palace. The meeting discussed President Emmanuel Macron's plan to visit Indonesia. However, Barrot did not disclose the result of the bilateral meeting.
"We had productive discussions with President Prabowo in preparation for President Macron's visit," said Jean-Nol Barrot at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Barrot stated that Macron's visit coincides with commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France. The meeting is expected to open a new chapter between countries. "To strengthen the common sovereignty and to unite the forces to solve some important problems of this century, both the regional crises and the global problems," he said.
Barrot mentioned that Indonesia is very active in preparing for Macron's visit. He is confident that the visit will run smoothly and be a significant milestone for the relations between the two countries.
The European and French Foreign Minister, Jean-Nol Barrot, made an honorary visit to Jakarta on March 25-26, 2025. During the visit, Barrot met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday morning, March 26, 2025.
Barrot and Sugiono are scheduled to sign a joint statement between France and Indonesia. This year, France and Indonesia celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In addition to meeting with Minister Sugiono, Barrot is also scheduled to visit the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Secretariat.
He will reaffirm France's support for ASEAN's centrality and discuss progress in implementing the France-ASEAN development partnership. France and ASEAN cooperation will be performed through the launch of cooperation projects in several fields, such as energy connectivity, as well as the cultural and creative industry.
