TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, also known as MBS, in a phone call on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which shared the statement on its X account (@KSAmofaEN), the two leaders discussed the escalating military tensions in West Asia and their potential implications for regional and global peace.
"His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, received a phone call today from President Prabowo Subianto of the Republic of Indonesia," the ministry wrote on X.
"During the call, they reviewed developments surrounding the military escalation in the region and its serious implications for regional and global peace."
President Prabowo also reportedly called for an immediate halt to the fighting.
“The Indonesian president emphasized the need for an immediate halt to military actions in the region, warning that such actions would undermine its security and stability,” the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
The tensions follow the U.S. and Israel airstrikes on Iran on February 28, 2026. The strike on Tehran, Iran’s capital, reportedly killed several Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated with attacks targeting Israel and neighboring countries hosting U.S. military bases.
Prabowo has repeatedly emphasized that Indonesia does not interfere in the internal affairs of other nations, a stance he says will continue throughout his presidency.
During a speech at the Nuzulul Quran commemoration at the State Palace in Jakarta on March 10, 2026, he highlighted Indonesia’s commitment to peace and friendly relations with all countries, including major world powers.
“We do not want to meddle in the internal affairs of any country,” Prabowo said, reaffirming Indonesia’s neutral and diplomatic approach to global conflicts.
