TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Saudi Arabian Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud (MBS) have voiced deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. This sentiment was reflected in a joint statement issued by the two leaders after their meeting at the Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
Prabowo and MBS affirmed their commitment to providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. Both nations urged the international community to take immediate action to halt the suffering in Gaza, condemn the use of blockades and starvation as weapons of war, and reject all forms of forced relocation of Palestinians.
The joint statement specifically quoted: "Both parties also condemn Israel's policy of using blockade and starvation as weapons against civilians in the Gaza Strip, and completely reject the forced displacement of Palestinian residents within and outside their homeland."
Indonesia and Saudi Arabia believe that achieving security and stability in Palestine can only be realized through the implementation of international regulations supporting a two-state solution. According to both countries, this solution would guarantee the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Speaking to the media in Jeddah, Prabowo stated that Indonesia and Saudi Arabia "have many similarities in geopolitical vision."
The Israeli military has displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians by destroying homes and vital civilian infrastructure in the refugee camps of Jenin and Tulkarem, rendering them uninhabitable. Amnesty International, in a written statement on June 5, 2025, described these actions as part of a brutal military operation in the occupied West Bank.
On June 5, Palestinians observed Nakba Day, commemorating the forced eviction of approximately 300,000 Palestinians during the June 1967 conflict, when Israel occupied the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the Gaza Strip. Fifty-eight years later, Israel's military operations over the past four months have resulted in the largest displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank since that time.
Israeli forces have deployed tanks, carried out airstrikes, destroyed buildings, dug up roads and infrastructure, and imposed extensive restrictions on freedom of movement through checkpoints and roadblocks. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, between January 21 and June 4, Israeli forces killed at least 80 Palestinians, including 14 children, in the northern West Bank, including Nablus.
On April 9, 2025, Prabowo expressed Indonesia's readiness to evacuate civilians from the Gaza Strip who have been victims of the long-standing conflict with Israel. The former defense minister stated that Indonesia is prepared to accommodate approximately 1,000 Gaza residents in the first wave of a temporary humanitarian evacuation.
Those slated for evacuation primarily include the wounded, orphaned children, and individuals severely traumatized by Israeli military aggression. "We are ready to send aircraft to transport them," Prabowo told the press before departing for the United Arab Emirates on April 9, 2025.
