TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto said that the Rp6.62 trillion in forestry administrative fines and state financial recoveries returned by the Attorney General’s Office could fund at least 100,000 permanent homes for flood victims in Aceh and other parts of Sumatra.
He described the fines collected from 20 palm oil companies as just a small fraction of the actual state losses.
“If we examine this closely, the fines should perhaps reach hundreds of trillions. Some companies are stubborn and consider it trivial, but we have proven and will continue to show that we are serious,” Prabowo said, as quoted by Antara, during the handover ceremony at the Attorney General’s Office Round Building in Jakarta on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
Prabowo highlighted that the returned state funds could also renovate around 6,000 schools in addition to building permanent homes for disaster victims.
During the event, the President asked ministers from his Red and White Cabinet about the housing needs for refugees. He was informed that nearly 200,000 permanent homes are needed for victims of floods and landslides.
“With this amount alone, 100,000 homes are already covered. Imagine the potential if more companies fulfill their obligations. These 20 companies are recalcitrant, yet their compliance could save the lives of 100,000 of our brothers and sisters,” Prabowo said.
Attorney General ST Burhanuddin reported that the Forest Area Rehabilitation Task Force (Satgas PKH) successfully reclaimed 4,081,560.58 hectares of land.
This includes Forest Area V, spanning 893,002.383 hectares. Of this, 240,575.383 hectares of oil palm plantations from 124 legal entities across six provinces were handed over through the Ministry of Finance, managed by Danantara and Agrinas.
Additionally, 688,427 hectares of conservation forest across nine provinces will be returned to the Ministry of Forestry for restoration.
Aside from forest reclamation, the Attorney General also announced the results of state financial recoveries and administrative fine collections.
A total of Rp6.62 trillion was handed over, comprising Rp2.34 trillion in forestry administrative fines from 20 palm oil companies and one nickel mining company, and Rp4.28 trillion in recovered state funds from alleged corruption cases related to crude palm oil export facilities and sugar imports.
